Tips For Taking Up Family Photography

By Linda Ruiz

Taking photographs is a sign that you want to preserve a memory for a long period of time. Through photographs, you can capture important memories shared with your parents, siblings, or children. You can see a whole new perspective to the things you see from your naked eyes. If you wish to be knowledgeable in Melbourne family photography, then here are the tips to take note of.

First, you should think about taking pictures in mini-groups. You can say that the portrait you take with your parents and siblings simply consist of multiple mini-groups within one large group. For the shots you take with your camera, you better make use of groups composed of two or three people to make a better portrait.

The levels are also important. You have to be aware that the pictures need to have levels so that you can make it livelier. If you want to vary the levels for the subjects used in your pictures, then you should pay attention to the faces and their placement. Put some faces higher than the others for a more intimate spacing.

Consider the color as well. It is not really important to think about color coordination when it comes to group shots. However, you can still use this to help with the overall flow of the portrait. You can have the subjects you are using for your shots to go by types of the colors. Examples are bold, pastels, vibrant, etc.

Even lighting is another important aspect to this that you have to pay close attention to. While it is important, it is not necessary to stress over it. You just have to remember that, when it comes to the lighting of the shots, the subjects' eyes should all be visible while the faces are lit in a relatively the same manner.

Picking a shade that you can take your pictures in is actually necessary too. If you are taking pictures, it is usually idea for you to do it at around five pm. This should provide you with a nice sidelight. However, you might be required to do it earlier. If that is the case, then you just have to diffuse the sunlight by taking pictures in shaded areas.

Move quickly when you are taking the shots. If you can, you should work to put up a story board for the said group shot before the actual pictorial. It can actually help you save time. Of course, you need to decide on the story board according to the number of participants there will be in the pictorial.

While it might be important for you to stick to the plan for the pictorial, nothing hurts with being fun and spontaneous. Aside from the actual shots you have planned, try to take shots of your parents walking together or your siblings being in a goofy pose. You can capture more genuine expressions through such shots.

Background work should also be prioritized. Too much background added to your pictures will actually be too distracting when the picture is printed. For you to avoid too much background, you should learn more about simplifying shots. You can do that by changing angles or perspectives when taking the shot.
