You may have a painting or a photograph that you want to be framed. Your reason may be is that you like to accentuate it and give more focus of what is depicted in it. You may also want to protect it from dust and other external factors that may damage the quality of art in it. Or you want it to complement the interior design of your house.

But choosing a frame randomly and just basing it on if the painting will fit in it or not is not the best way to do it. Be informed on the size of your artwork so that you would be able to know the available options for you. Pieces in standards size, normally A3 or A4, have frames that can be readily bought any time while others need custom ones. Moulding will also be determined by the size of the piece and large frames must not use skinny ones that is not strong enough to support it.

Glazing helps protect your artworks and you can choose which type you would be needing for it. The standard ones help keep the quality of your painting and protect it from particles. Ultraviolet reducing glazing are used to protect the art from potential damages cause by harmful ultraviolet rays. Anti glare glazing meanwhile are used when the images will be displayed in a bright area and will still let people see the images clearly. Having a glazing on oil paintings are not recommended because it may cause smudges on it.

Matting is also another way of preserving paintings while highlighting it with the neutral color it usually comes with. It could be used to add depth on the picture or in putting multiple images in a single frame. Matting should have wider are than the frame width and the bottom of the matting should be weighted as well.

Give thought to the orientation of the place you will be putting your framed artwork. Landscape images work well when put on wide walls and images on portrait work well in narrow walls. Multiple frame images can be placed together like a puzzle if you have a big wall but only have smaller paintings at your disposal.

Think about what material you like to use for the frames as well. There are frames made out wood which have different styles and appearances and can give off different vibes like classic, retro and modern. Frames made with aluminum are good for modern homes as well as commercial spaces.

The color the frame have is also essential in complementing the image and the decorations surrounding it. Neutral colors may be the safest to use but having a color that is the same with the prominent color of the image will help it pop out more. It would give a striking effect as well.

Consider the location of where you are going to display it. You can group different but related pictures by framing them the same way so the connections can be seen. You can also frame one differently between those with similar frames to put the emphasis on it.
