What You Can Expect From The Best Art Communities Online

By Brian Lewis

The art industry can be pretty cutthroat and unforgiving. You may spend a lifetime developing and perfecting your craft, and yet your probability to be cast to oblivion is not reduced in the slightest. If you are a so called minor artist, this probability is increased threefold, in which case you should probably take the necessary steps to leverage your artwork through the Best Art Communities Online.

The ability to make art is a very singular and uncommon talent. It is not something that just about anyone can do. That is to say, if you try to take the population density of artists per square kilometer, you would get very sparse results indeed. And that is just unfortunate because although creativity is essentially an introspective activity, these creative souls do need a common pool of inspiration and a cadre of like minded friends with whom they can share their passions and enthusiasms.

Artist residencies have been rife throughout history. Certain places have served as the stomping grounds of famous and talented artists, such as Collioure in France, which has been classically dubbed as the City of Painters. There is Arles, the hub of renowned painters Van Gogh and Gaugin. There are Montparnasse and Normandy. The list can practically go on and on.

The thing, though, is that a physical, corporeal community is not viable nowadays. Even the places mentioned above are already interpolated with folks who dont give two hoots about culture and the arts. In the modern age, artists are an essentially dispersed lot.

This is no longer a problem, though. Those who have anticipated this dilemma have created a niche in the World Wide Web that can serve as an all around platform for creative souls. These virtual communities have varied purposes and objectives. Some are social meet and greet outlets, some are marketing platforms, while some are mere online galleries or catalogues. There are some that were really created and meant for artists, while some were just adapted to be so.

They may come in the form of galleries where fellow artists can view and get inspired with the posted artworks of their peers. All genres and media, from painting, sculpture, illustration, photography, 3D art, doodles, and many other possibilities have a corresponding suite. Most importantly, these allow you to receive comments and feedback. They also connect you with like minded persons, with whom you can gush with on your enthusiasm for art.

For the enterprising and business minded artist, these are nifty platforms in which you can promote your works. You may receive commissions and get appraisals. You can also tap on other businesses that will turn your creations into promo items, such as prints, greeting cards, mugs, t shirts, and some such. They also proffer various art resources and pitch regular art contests. These online communities are also such a leeway that can provide you patronage and funding, whenever you need them.

There are also drawbacks in this seemingly perfect enterprise, however. In the larger communities, the quality of the virtual space is admixed with mere hobbyists who are not really true blue artists per se. That is to say, the sheer size of the community can cover up and block out the real deals. Online art communities are also the turf of scammers who can rip you off with bogus buys or opportunities.

The advantages still far outweigh the disadvantages, however, which you can just drown out with a little wisdom and patience. These virtual communities are the feel good and show and tell hubs for artists who feel a creative isolation and desolation. They are noble enterprises for a noble cause.
