By Sonya Riley

The Monuments Men book was written by author Robert M. Edsel along with other of his non fictional works like Rescuing Da Vinci and Saving Italy. In the past years, Robert Edsel becomes interested in art and architecture and what better way to show this is through writing a beautiful story. After learning the secrets of these unsung heroes, his published book caught the attention of many readers.

Since his work is loved by most bookworms, Hollywood has made a new version through the film called Monuments Men. In fact, this movie has an amazing cast from Matt Damon, Bill Murray, John Goodman and Cate Blanchett. Moreover, this is even directed and co produced by George Clooney making this one of the exciting films for December.

Somehow, this book was based from true events during the WWII that was held just left untold until the making of the movie. This was about the efforts of a prestigious organization called the Monuments, Fine Arts and Architecture which is a division of the US military. It was composed of amazing individuals from various expertise of curators, historians and educators.

This particular work of Edsel really is an eye opener especially for the younger generations of these times. Since this is based from true events, people will get a glimpse of what could have happened during the powerful rule of the Nazis. Moreover, they will be able to know the struggles of these few men who risked their lives saving monuments and other cultural treasures.

By saving civilization to the best of their abilities, their efforts were coming into place as they have saved thousands of artifacts from the German ruler Hitler. Although the process of getting these items may not be at all simple, they manage to acquire it with their lives. Moreover, this quest becomes one of the greatest treasure hunt in history.

In totality, the war mostly brought drastic effects not just to any structures but also to the lives of the people. It seems that their hopes and dreams have been shattered to ruins that it is difficult to get back on track. Every person may have its own version to tell but the impending boulevard of broken souls could have been much worse.

Through the works of the MFAA and their exceptional men and women, history was saved from the ruins of the war. They could have just hidden underground but instead they took the challenge no matter how hard it is. Their impact in society would definitely make people like us today very grateful for saving the painting of Mona Lisa or the sculpture of David.

What is even more amazing is that the Monuments Men Foundation was formulated in honor of their service to art preservation. More importantly, this organization is in honor of those brave souls who fought hard to won over such historical artifacts. The mission did not actually end as more treasures are still left to be discovered.

The legend told in the Monuments Men book is very exceptional and Robert Edsel have effectively spread its message. With thousands of historic items discovered, the fact remains that another thousands are still missing and gone from destruction. And in this line, the quest for these lost treasures continue onwards for the next generation.
