Band Or Mobile Wedding DJ?: Questions For Planning

By Marissa Velazquez

Getting engaged is a huge, exciting event in one's life, and the wedding is an even bigger event. In between, however, comes the planning. Putting a wedding together can be a fun, but it can also be very stressful. It presents many questions, such as whether to hire a wedding planner, how many people to invite, how to cater the event, who should be in the party, and whether to hire a band or a mobile wedding DJ.

Hire a wedding planner or plan the event yourself? There are a lot of things to consider when making this decision. If you have a large budget and plan on inviting a lot of people, it may make sense to hire someone to help out. However, if event planning is something you like to do, and you have the time to make the arrangements on your own, that might be the best decision. You could ask your friends to help, which could make the planning more fun.

How many guests should we have? If both people in the couple have large families, but the budget for the event is small, the guest list can be a source of stress. In this situation, many people find it best to have a small ceremony and reception, with a very limited number of guests. Another option is to invite many people to the ceremony itself, but fewer people to the reception.

Where should I have my ceremony and reception? Ask around and find out if anyone you know has access to a church or reception hall. Some churches may require that a couple undergo pre-marriage counseling before getting married in the church, so that is something to consider. If you are unable to find a good deal on a venue for the event, you might consider having it in someone's home or in a park, especially if the guest list is small.

Should you hire a professional caterer? This is an area where you can be creative and possibly cut costs. If your funds are limited, consider having a family member or a friend cater the reception. Another possibility is to serve a small menu and/or limit the alcohol to only beer or wine.

Who should you include in the wedding party? Many fights erupt over this question. If you envision hurt feelings and arguments over this issue, consider limiting your wedding party to one person for each member of the couple. Ask other friends and family members to help in different ways.

DJ or Band? This decision is influenced by the space in which the reception will take place, the type of music you prefer, and the kind of party you envision. Like everything else, it also concerns the budget.

Likewise, if you know a mobile wedding DJ, or have a friend who knows one, you may be able to get a good deal. Ask around and explore your options regarding both Djs and bands.Begin your planning as soon as possible, in order to avoid the added stress of a time crunch. Remember, getting married should be fun. It should be memorable in good ways, rather than memorable for the stress it caused. Planning ahead will help to make this a reality.
