Exploring Great Dance Talent Competitions

By Karina Frost

It seems like all current television shows related to dance are contests. There used to be a number of television shows featuring movement, American Band Stand and Soul train, are memorable ones. While this was the case in the past, it seems the present and future is focused on dance talent competitions.

Generally, these contests require that individuals be grouped by age, or experience. Depending on the competition, some are free, and others cost a fortune to register. As such, it is advised that when looking for a competition, individuals do so by searching and exploring a number of different ones.

Every contest has a set of rules and guidelines. It's important for registrants to follow all those listed to avoid a possibility of disqualification. At times, the organizers will provide a warning before actually disqualifying someone but this is not always the case.

It is also important to be creative in style as well as choreography. When a dancer has style with a sense of self and self-confidence, one can often go quite far in a contest. Whereas, individuals lacking either great choreography or self-confidence often do not make it to the semi-finals or finals.

Perusing blogs and other publications can often be a good way to obtain information about contests as well as information for routines. Other publications like magazines and newsletters can often offer even more information on the topic, including different summer camps and festivals related to movement.

When on a blog, individuals can often have live one-on-one discussions with others. Discussions and forums often offer an outlet for individuals to vent about different issues going on at the time. While discussions and forums may not be in real time, posting and answers are often show within a very short amount of time.

It is important when posting to blogs, or commenting on other articles to be as kind and professional as possible. If not, most Administrators and owners will often provide a warning, which if not followed can lead to being banned from a website, either for a short period, or, for life. As such, it pays to be kind, especially when communicating with others online.

To get the most out of dance related information, it is probably best to sign up on multiple dance blogs. In doing so, individuals can find a variety of information that might otherwise be available in traditional learning formats. It is also important to rehearse several hours a day if an individual truly wants a chance at winning a competition.

Shows like Do You Think You Can Dance and America's Got Talent are good for adults. Although, it can be questioned as to whether you can call being on America's Got Talent being in a dance competition as it is more of a variety show. Whereas, America's Got Talent is a variety show. Ultimately, it is up to each individual to decide what type of competitions offer the best opportunities and prizes and whether or not to enter as some may not be as good as others.
