Band Interview With Redline From Dallas, TX

By Jake O'neil

Dallas, TX, is the home to soulful rock band, Redline. The members of the band include Joseph Campise (lead guitar), Austin Adams (bass), Joe Rodriguez (vocals/acoustic guitar), and Nate Williams (drums). Heavily influenced by the likes of Jimmy Hendrix and The Red Hot Chili Peppers, Redline is a stand-out high energy rock band.

Redline took shape around five years ago and the members empathize that they've absolutely loved every second of it. Austin also tells me during that the band got their name from the term or phrase of "redlining" a car. This phrase symbolizes the the members of the band attitude of "giving it your all and putting everything you have into everything you do."

"Just going with whatever comes to mind" is how Redline normally begin when writing a song. As college students, Austin says their next step in the writing process is similar to what the band, The Postal Service, did when they were in college, and it is a pretty unique technique. A member of the band will record a chorus, riff, or portion of a song with his cell phone and send it in a group chat to all of the other members of the band. Then all of the members will critique what's been sent as a group. Then later, when each band member's semester in school is over, the whole band will meet up for band practice, at which time they jam out their ideas and bounce them off of each other.

Redline just released their latest album in January and plan on releasing a couple of singles over the summer. When I asked how close all the band members were as far as their friendships and interpersonal relationships go, they told me that they all feel like they were born to play in this band together. This group has been through bad shows and great shows, bad luck and good luck. Much like the story behind their band name suggests, they have learned to never give up, "even when you think life couldn't get any worse, never back down."

The band also says that they will almost certainly never go the way mainstream music goes. Austin says, "the group has been through too much sh*t to not make it, and I love it." The band's hardest struggle when they first started playing music was building up their fan base and getting the response they were really looking for in potential fans. After putting themselves out there though, they finally were able to foster the support they were so desperately searching for. The members of Redline are looking forward to performing together for years to come in the future.
