For many women coloring gray hair is a vital part of their lives from the moment those first few troublesome grays begin to appear. Some people are lucky and do not need to use color or other products until they are well into their fifties, but for some the process begins much sooner.

Most cases of premature graying are due to hereditary factors. If a parent, especially the mother, experienced early graying then it is quite likely that the children will too. A color treatment takes about an hour to complete. The mixture is applied to the roots first as these are the most resistant part of the hair. Often the ends only need a few minuets of treatment so that they do not become too dark. It can take a while to find a hairdresser who really makes the client feel totally comfortable. Getting that perfect match of personalities can be tricky but once they find that perfect hairdresser most people keep coming back for years.

Stylists are there to help and will give their clients lots of practical ideas and tips. Sometimes having long tresses cut short can take the emphasis off the color and help the woman make the transition to a whole new look. Those who are pregnant should also take professional advice about which are the safest brands to use.

A more cost effective method to dealing with troublesome grays is a home color kit. These are very inexpensive and can be purchased from grocery stores, pharmacies and many other location. It does take a little time and effort to get the hand of using them, but many people love the access to convenient and affordable color whenever they need it.

Sometimes people like to try a few different colors before deciding which one they like the best. It is important to understand that certain shade come out much darker than expected. Most people only want to go a shade or two darker or lighter and need to be careful.

If the gray hairs are very prominent it may be necessary to color as often as every three weeks. This will help to prevent the roots from becoming too obvious and keep the look consistent. It only takes about an hours from start to finish and the results are wonderful.
